Everybody – most probably – loves pasta. But what if it’s your very own homemade pasta that’s on the table?
What a delight it would be to satisfy your appetite with your homemade pasta! You can probably even surprise your family, friends, and other guests.
Perhaps, you are thinking that it may be too difficult to make your own homemade pasta. But that thought is farther from the truth.
In fact, there are many simple ways to make your homemade pasta by hand that wouldn’t be too much trouble and take too much of your time in the kitchen.
Ingredients for the Pasta
For starters, in making your homemade pasta you would need a few things that you might have been keeping already in your kitchen:
- Three large eggs,
- flour,
- two cups semolina or American bread flour,
- a bowl,
- water,
- a pot with boiling water,
- your rolling pin, and
- pasta sauce.
If you don’t have those types of flour mentioned, you can use all-purpose flour instead.
Now, place the flour in a bowl. Crack the large eggs and fold them in to make your dough.
In mixing the dough, use a fork first and make a few pricks before you knead the dough with your bare hands.
Knead until you feel the dough is already firm to the touch. Typically, that would take around ten to fifteen minutes of kneading.
Then, add water to your dough. Drop only small amounts at a time.
The next step would be to get your dough and roll it into a ball. After doing so, cover it with either a plate or a plastic wrap for about thirty minutes.
Using your rolling pin, roll out your dough until it becomes a flat sheet on the table. While you’re doing that, you may notice that the flour may get a bit sticky.
Just sprinkle the rolling pin and the surface where you are going to place your dough with flour. Be sure that you have rolled the balls really thin.
Making the Noodles
Now it’s time to make your noodles. Get the flat dough sheets one by one and carefully roll them into a tube.
With a knife, cut the tube into sections. To make sure you’re doing it right, just bear in mind that each section should not be wider than that of a quarter.
Slowly stretch out the sections to form them into noodles. Let those dry for ten minutes.
Now, you’re not done yet. You still need to boil those pasta strands in salted water.
That takes about two to three minutes. The length of boiling time would actually depend on the thickness of your pasta strands.
When your pasta floats to the surface of the water, go ahead and taste it to check if it’s ready to be eaten. When the firmness of your pasta is just right, scoop out the noodles and drain.
The last thing to do is to add your pasta sauce to your homemade pasta noodles enjoy a very delicious meal, and congratulate yourself for a job well done in the kitchen.
